Healing Though Art
If you had a moment to read the 'Your Doctor' page you will recall that ITAV is an acronym for "It Takes A Village". As part of the village ITAV is partnering with Visual Artist Rowena Valentine to provide Healing Through Art program. Rowena has been always been artistic and started her business in 2007, where she paints original mixed media art projects and teaches art workshops. Click here to read more about Rowena.
Does Art Therapy really work?
The pictures below are of a recent event covered by CNN. "While the arts may not cure patients, "research has proven that it does assist the patient in terms of getting well," says Sharon Woodworth, an architect and Global Alliance board member. "It either allows them to relax (so that) their treatment is more acceptable or it helps the caregiver in terms of better reaching the patient." by Amanda Gardner "Helping patients heal through the arts". Special to CNN updated 7:05 AM EDT, Fri July 5, 2013. To see the entire article click here.
Unlike other artistic expressions creating a piece of art can be done by any and everyone. It is subjective so you decide your creative expression and do not have to worry about doing it "right". When we create art, we make something that did not exist before and can preserve it to enjoy.
The ITAV Healing Through Art program is designed to help you by changing your perspective and allowing you to see that that life can be more than the challenges you are facing now. The program provides you with opportunities to heal and become stronger.
For the Healing Through Art program we will be working with watercolor because it is a type of art that can be done in any setting. On a table, on the floor and even in your bed plus the supplies are very reasonable.
At ITAV Rowena will be uploading a video every month that shows you how complete a simple water color art project so stay tuned.
